Atami is a popular hot spring resort that can be reached in less than an hour from Tokyo by bullet train.
As soon as you exit the station, you will see a sign that says “Heiwa Dori (Peace Street).”
Heiwa Dori is lined with souvenir stores, 温泉饅頭（おんせんまんじゅう、hot spring bun） shops, and various other stores, and is crowded with tourists.
We went to a store selling square cream puffs.
We bought a cream puff filled with green tea cream.
(We were told that the most popular item was the crème brûlée filling.)
The matcha cream puffs contain not only matcha, but also a type of tea called “guricha.
Guricha is made by steaming raw tea leaves to the core.
Cream puffs are called “シュークリーム (Shu kurimu)” in Japanese!
The name comes from the French sweets “chou à la crème”.
