Matcha sweets are receiving more and more spotlight in Japan.
This is Episode 1 of the “Matcha Lover’s Club” series, in which Miki eats matcha sweets from all over Japan for a year to determine the number one of 2023.
The first matcha sweet of this year is the “Matcha Daifuku Pancake” from Panel Cafe Nagoya Ekimae.
This is a famous cafe in Kyoto, but the same pancakes are available in Nagoya.
Daifuku is a Japanese sweet made of rice cake filled with red bean paste.
Daifuku is said to be the most favorite Japanese sweets among Japanese people.
Now, the name of the menu was “Matcha Daifuku Pancake.
Can you taste Daifuku and pancakes at the same time?
Yes, you can.
The fluffy pancake is topped with anko (red bean paste), cream, and soft mochi.
This mochi is called gyuuhi in Japanese.
Matcha flavor ★★★★☆
Degree of matchaness in the desert ★★★★☆
Overall tastiness of the treat ★★★★☆
I thought that the pancakes were not too sweet, and the bitter green tea powder went well with the mochi, red bean paste, and cream.
